This is such a fantastic book . I devour it, its one of those books you start and just can't put down. Although Max tell's you at the beginning of the book there are triggers but this book is so well written , she did a wonderful job in putting pen to paper!!Amelia and Evan have a pass and when they meet again its not under the best circumstances .They have a tough start ,but all good things are worth fighting for. This story will break your heart and bring bring out all your feelings. The characters are those in a story the you cheer for and the villain in this story is the one you hate .
To me when a writer can make you feel sad, happy , angry, hurt... You know they have done a fantastic job. I suck at reviews just know this is a must read, you love it.... Its on my top reads for this year!! Could not put it down.💝💝👍👍👍

As always Max knocks it out of the park! A deep and tragic story that has a silver lining and so much happiness. In life, there is always a lot of bad to go with the good, this book is all about how tragic one's life can start out and how amazing it can end up. I couldn't stop reading once I started. Amazing. I had to keep my tissues close by and take a few deep breaths at certain parts, but wow, I love Officer North!
I've read Max Henry's work and always enjoyed it, this is no exception!! Mrs. Henry has written a book that will take you through a gambit of emotions, heartache, anger, humor, love, simply put an emotional roller coaster!! Amelia and Evan are Max's main characters, who have history, young first love. But Evan leaves her hurt, broken not letting anyone near. Tragic events bring them back face to face, as much as she's hurt and angry, she still loves the boy; will she love the man? Someone from her past, someone who is pure evil may be back can Evan save her, while dealing with his past guilt; will Amelia deal with her past so she can finally have a life, love. There are side characters who will pull at you as well, one being Briar... I just wanted to reach thru the pages and squeeze him!! Once again Max Henry wrote a book that will have you turning page after page, not stopping till the end. You can't go wrong picking this gem up, and i look forward to reading more from this Author.
This is the first of Max Henry's books I have read, and it won't be the last. I'm giving this 4.5 stars!
Tough Love touches on some pretty tough subjects; bullying, abuse, death, regret, self-loathing, forgiveness, and guilt. I think the author did a fantastic job at tackling all of these subjects without trivialising anything.
In this book we meet Amelia as her world is set to change. A family crisis means that she has to reconnect with the people who, when times got tough, weren't there to support her. I can't even begin to imagine how that would feel, but I think the author portrayed it very well.
I enjoyed watching Amelia slowly crawl out from under her veil of hate, guilt and numbness, all of which were justified. I think I would have reacted the same way had I been in her shoes. Seeing her come to terms with things and finally start putting those feelings behind her was quite uplifting.
I also have to give mention to the story being set in New Zealand! Being a fellow kiwi, I always love finding these little gems. There's nothing quite like reading a book set in familiar territory.
All in all, Tough Love was a well written story that I really enjoyed. I look forward to reading more from this author!
This book is pure gold, it's so well written and a real tear jerker to read! It will break you and then put you back together again. But what I appreciated the most was how truly realistic the theme is. It could happen to anyone at any time and more than likely someone you know has experienced this.
Amelia is surviving but not truly living and not truly happy. Her sister comes back into her life under horrible circumstances, unfortunately they don't get to bury the past before it's too late and that was very sad but Mimi discovers she has a nephew. He is the most amazingly beautiful kid & he will need his Aunt in a way she never knew she could be. Their relationship develops beautifully and it is lovely to read.
Evan is Amelias lost love and he comes back into her life when she needs him the most. At first I was like nope he doesn't deserve to be forgiven but that soon changed, he is amazing!
I was so mad with her parents too but I understood how the past events were difficult for them all.
Max is a truly talented author and I give her props for tackling this subject matter and for writing it so honestly and not trying to sugarcoat anything.
This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions and at times you'll want to give up but believe me it's so worth it!
This book! Is everything I have come to love when reading Max Henry's words. It gripped me from the very first word, had my heart & soul transfixed to what was transpiring within the storyline. If I didn't have to cook & ready the little one for the night, I would have read this in one sitting... once I was able to, I did finish it.
Max Henry does what Max does best, dark troubling subjects brought to light, writen so that you can feel the pain, the hurt, the need to fight just by reading the words. It wasn't an easy read though, heartbreaking scenes throughout made for a never ending rain of tears, Tough Love was thouroughly engaging. I love Max's writing style, the realistic characters & romance between them all, it's not your normal boy meets girls, she's swept off her feet, they lived happily ever after type romance... it's more real, grity, & you have to work for it, but once it's discovered, WOW.
